FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is the difference between a Mental Health Counselor and Life Coach?

This is a great question. I am both – so, to be honest, my skills are a combination of the two which I think may be beneficial for you – as you won’t have to hire both. One of the major differences that I see is that a counselor often primarily helps individuals with issues from their past that might be triggering them in the present- some of these issues could include past trauma. Whereas, a coach often focuses a bit more on the present and the future. Although, a good coach also helps the client to take a look back as well to see what might be hindering them from moving forward.

What is a Life Coach?

A life and career coach helps you to discover or rediscover who you are and how to live your best life. There are many reasons to hire a coach. Some of them are: you are in the “messy middle” of a life transition and need someone to “walk” with you and help you get to the other side. Or, you may be wrestling with a decision and need someone to help you to unlock the answers within yourself.

What is a Mental Health Counselor?

A mental health counselor works with and counsels a client or couple dealing with emotional challenges, mental illness, trauma, grief and loss, and relationship issues. A counselor often draws on the client’s past history in order to help the client heal. This also improves the quality of the client’s life.

Do you take insurance?

No, at this time I do not. Sometimes people have found creative ways to pay me though – like using a flexible spending account or other benefit with their employer. I can provide a superbill for counseling services that insurance sometimes uses to reimburse you for services rendered.  * I do offer a ministry discount.

Remember counseling and coaching are an investment in you, in your life, your future… Congratulations on considering taking this step!

How do you like to connect with your clients?

My aim is to help you reach your goals in whichever way best helps you. As scheduling and travel can sometimes get in the way of these goals, I want to be available to assist you whenever possible. We can meet face to face in Zionsville, and through online video conferencing.

How does payment work?

A secure credit card can be on file in my Simple Practice site. If you agree, automatic payments will be taken at midnight the day of the service. If you are signing up for a package or workshop, payment plans can be arranged. Feel free to ask me about this. You must cancel at least 24 hours in advance of an appointment. I allow for one late cancellation in the case of sickness or emergency. Otherwise, you will be responsible for the payment. Please let me know if you have any questions.
